Flâner Autour

Yes loafing around with a Ricoh in my pocket. Again. As you have probably guessed I had a load of old colour film developed. Had it done at the present incarnation of 'The Lab' in Redfern, ah the smell, reminded me of those days when photographers ruled the craft. All replaced by my iPhone.

Taken from White Rabbit. Simona, who I used to do business
with, was recently bought by White Rabbit.

Melbourne To Bendigo, Spring 2011

Some five days away, three nights in Melbourne, one night in Bendigo.
We went to see the Gustav Klimt and Viennese exhibition in Melbourne,
the Wedding Dress exhibition in Bendigo (better than it sounds).
All these shots were taken on my pocket Ricoh, with film that was only developed this week, and had been in the fridge for years!
I did of course document everything in digital...maybe later.

Wild dogs, not just a problem in the high country.

Hidden, Among The Gravestones Of Rookwood

Travelled west on a well lit Sunday, to visit an art - sculpture exhibition at Rookwood Cemetery or more correctly Rookwood Necropolis. The largest in the southern hemisphere they say.
The art work had an advantage, hidden as they were amongst the dead. Gave it all some gravitas, one showed respect. It was also way cool.

This is an ipod special, I ran out of film but had
to photograph this, possibly the best piece.
Made of thread and tarlatan By Jane Theau.
Artist statement from the Hidden 2012 catalogue - Bea Miles was larger than life Sydney character who stood on street corners reciting Shakespeare from mmeory. She was notorious for taking long taxi rides and stepping out without any thought of paying. I have a soft spot for Bea as we perch on distant branches of my family tree, and we attended the same school; her exploits were often recounted to me by my grandmother. Bea had a momentous funeral at Rookwood Cemetery in 1973., complete wit jazz band and was the inspiraton for the movie'Lillian's Story'.

Proud Kanak women in what seemed to be their national dress.
+ m~ of course.

Lots of time spent waiting for buses.

m~ coming through to the other side.

The mask is alive and well & living in Glebe.

Traditional Chinese Medicine 中医

Today I deviate from the trove of Japanese photos that I will return to, no doubt -- and focus on the Continent. Asia, that is.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners are doing wonders for me. (They are actually in Sydney, but authentic, just the same.)

They always make me feel welcome, but this was a surprise...
Then I learned it was Buddha's birthday, so all the ceremony
was not just for me.

Buddha can't do everything -- occasionally Confucius turns up.
